Choosing an Accent Wall for Your Home

October 30, 2015 Author: Paulette Piazza Category: Advice  0 Comments

An accent wall is a beautiful way to add color and texture to a room without overwhelming the eyes. From the bedroom to the living room, there are many areas that an accent wall can compliment, when done right. Detailed murals and textured finishes are a couple of my favorite options for an accent wall.

Choose a Focal Point

When choosing your wall, it is important to consider what the focal point of the room is. For example, the wall behind the bed is a common choice when painting an accent wall in the bedroom. A beautiful and creative extension of the headboard, the accent wall immediately draws the eye to the room’s most important feature: The bed.

In other areas of the home, like the dining room, kitchen and living room, there are many different reasons to choose your wall. Maybe you are looking to elongate a space, draw attention to unique cupboards or add a pop of color behind the bathroom counter. Create balance with the accent wall and make your favorite area stand out beautifully.

Pay Attention to Architecture

Another tip for choosing your accent wall is to pay attention to architectural features. Highlight interesting nooks and crannies in your home, the bookcase wall or the wall behind the fireplace to make your favorite features pop.

Once you have decided on your wall, it is time to consider design. Work with Arte Della Piazza to make your artistic vision come to life. Whether you are looking to have a mural created, ornamentation added or a textured finish designed, Arte Della Piazza can create it with the upmost care. Preparing for your Color Consultation

September 17, 2015 Author: Paulette Piazza Category: Advice, Color Consultations  0 Comments

Whether you are moving into a new home or remodeling your current abode, the color scheme you choose will set the mood you desire. Working with a color consultant is a great way to create rooms that fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Follow my tips and tricks to get the most out of your consultation.

Consider Your Color Preferences

The first and most important way to get ready for your consultation is to take time to think about your color preferences. Make a list of hues you love and another of ones you really dislike. Have a specific piece or pattern that you love? Show it to your consultant so we can work it into your color scheme. Surf the internet and save examples of your favorite ideas too so there are lots of options and ideas to work with as we begin.

Begin with an Open Mind

Be open minded to new colors and ideas for the best results. Have a little faith and follow the professional’s advice if you are on the fence. The worst result: Repainting a couple walls. More likely than not, you will end up loving the colors we recommend, since they are based on your likes, dislikes and home style.

Think Towards the Future

Choosing colors that will be appealing for years to come is an important part of painting and decorating your home. Work with your consultant to develop a color scheme that will be as attractive in five or ten years as it is now. When painting children’s bedrooms, offices and other areas that will change over time, be open to considering neutral palettes that will be create appeal as your home changes over time.

Enjoying Art with your Children

July 30, 2015 Author: Paulette Piazza Category: Kids and Art  0 Comments

mom and daughter drawing togetherArt is not just something for adults; it can be enjoyed by children too! There are plenty of benefits to teaching your kids about art, as it is a form of learning that sparks the right hemisphere of the brain. This means that art has the ability to stimulate emotional perception and creativity! Viewing and discussing art with your kids can also help them to think critically while analyzing and interpreting what they see. Here are some ways to incorporate and enjoy art with your family:

Visit an Art Museum

Give your kids a chance to experience all sorts of art by visiting your local art museum! Not every child will love the experience, but there are plenty of ways to get your whole bunch into it. Click here for some great game ideas to try.  Many art museums have children’s programs as well, so check out your local museum’s website before making your trip. The Denver Art Museum has tons of kid-friendly activities going on every day!

Check out a Book

In between field trips, try checking out an art book from the library, or looking up pictures of some of your favorite paintings online. Show them to your kids and let them tell you what they think. Talk about the first thing you each noticed in the painting, what you think is taking place and what you would do if you were in the painting. Making art fun is a wonderful way to get children engaged and excited.

Create your Own Masterpieces

Painting and drawing with children is always fun, but it’s especially interesting to see what they will create after being exposed to new art. Get out your markers, crayons and paint and get creative together. Once your masterpieces are complete, let your children describe their scenes to you. Ask questions and allow their creativity to flourish!

Choosing a Mural for Your Home

June 25, 2015 Author: Paulette Piazza Category: Advice  0 Comments

Gold Wine Cellar MuralWall and ceiling murals are a beautiful way to highlight a particular area of your home. Have a mural painted on the wall of your favorite room or have a freestanding piece created to highlight the beauty of your home! There are many choices to think about when planning this detailed piece of art including size, theme and more. Follow this guide to begin the process of developing the right piece for your home:

Your Decorating Taste

Before planning the mural, think deeply about your decorating styles and tastes. A mural is a detailed, permanent piece of work that will highlight the features of your home for years to come. This means it must match your decorative taste well. When deciding on a mural theme first consider what time periods your design inspiration comes from and how the mural will accent your furniture and decorative choices.

Scale and Proportion

Next, focus on the size of the room you want to have your mural created in. When designing in a smaller space, aim for a simpler design. Too many colors or too busy of a mural will overwhelm a small room. The larger the room, the larger the mural can be!

How the Room Will Be Used

Also consider what the room is typically used for. When designing a mural in a living room, a great place to have it painted is behind the couch. This will attract visitors’ eyes to the mural, but not distract them from other pieces in the room, like a fireplace or television set.
